WHAT WE DO

  • Co-facilitate a professional development and showcase gathering hosted by a different community every year.
  • Publications, reports and news about community arts activities
  • Other arts workshops and networking: We can provide training in “community arts” or arts management based on the needs of your community.
  • Group Benefits and Liability Insurance provided to member organizations and individuals.
  • Website offers information on community arts and opportunities for interactive discussions.
  • Online Services: email updates on community arts activities across the province.
  • Advocacy on issues important to the arts community.

Our Mission & Mandate

  • To cultivate and connect the arts, artists and people across Ontario from urban, rural and remote communities.  We believe…
    • Everyone has the right to access and to participate in the arts.
    • A strong arts community contributes to the liveability and economic vitality of our towns & cities.
    • In celebrating our diversity
    • In building bridges through partnerships.
    • In setting new standards for excellence and innovation

Our strategic priorities set in February 2007 are:

  • Facilitate broader and more inclusive definitions of community and community arts. CAO has always recognized that communities self-define and that they are constantly changing/growing/redefining themselves; as a result, definitions of community arts vary and evolve.
  • Provide network, exchange, and professional development opportunities for community arts practitioners.
  • Provide support for under-served communities.
